About

The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted in India for admission to management programs such as MBA and PGDM at various business schools, including top private and government institutes. Conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) since 1988, MAT is recognized for providing a standardized assessment for managerial and business aptitude.

MAT evaluates candidates on quantitative, verbal, logical, and analytical skills necessary for successful management education and careers. Many leading B-Schools across India accept MAT scores for their admission process, making it a widely used entrance exam for management aspirants.

Examination Pattern

The MAT Exam typically follows this structure:

  • Mode: Paper-based test (PBT), Computer-based test (CBT), and sometimes Remote Proctored Test (IPT)
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Sections:
    • Language Comprehension: Vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension
    • Mathematical Skills: Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and quantitative reasoning
    • Data Analysis & Sufficiency: Interpretation, analysis, and data-based problem-solving
    • Intelligence & Critical Reasoning: Logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving
    • Indian & Global Environment: General awareness about business, economics, and current affairs
  • Number of Questions: 200 (40 questions per section)
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answer; no negative marking (in some versions, negative marking of -0.25 may apply for wrong answers in MCQs)

Elligibility

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university
  • Final-Year Students: Students in the final year of graduation are eligible to apply
  • Age Limit: No age restriction

Admission Process

  • Shortlisting: B-Schools shortlist candidates based on MAT scores
  • Selection Rounds: Shortlisted candidates may appear for Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), and Personal Interview (PI)
  • Final Selection: Admission is offered based on MAT scores, performance in GD/WAT/PI, academic record, and work experience
  • Document Verification and Fee Payment: Admission confirmed after verification and fee submission
