The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level entrance examination conducted in India for admission to management programs such as MBA, PGDM, and executive programs at top B-Schools, including XLRI Jamshedpur and other XAMI-affiliated institutes. Established in 1963, XAT is recognized for its rigorous evaluation of analytical, decision-making, and managerial aptitude.

XAT evaluates candidates on quantitative, verbal, analytical, and decision-making skills, along with general knowledge, providing a comprehensive assessment of managerial potential. Scores are widely accepted by over 150 top business schools across India.

Examination Pattern

The XAT Exam typically follows this structure:

  • Mode: Computer-based test (CBT)
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Sections:
    • Verbal and Logical Ability (VLA): Tests English language proficiency, grammar, and logical reasoning
    • Decision Making (DM): Assesses problem-solving, critical thinking, and managerial decision-making skills
    • Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI): Covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data interpretation, and quantitative reasoning
    • General Knowledge (GK): Current affairs, business awareness, and general knowledge (non-scoring for shortlisting but considered for final selection in some institutes)
  • Number of Questions: Typically 100–110 questions
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answers, -0.25 for incorrect answers (varies for non-MCQ or special questions)

Elligibility

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years from a recognized university
  • Final-Year Students: Eligible to apply
  • Age Limit: No age restriction

Admission Process

  • Shortlisting: Based on XAT scores and academic record
  • Selection Rounds: Includes Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), and Personal Interview (PI)
  • Final Selection: Based on XAT score, GD/WAT/PI performance, academic record, and work experience
